Founded in 2003, Washburn School is a TOTAL ENGLISH IMMERSION, college preparatory, co-educational, value-based, multi-cultural day school for grades Pre-K to 12th grade located in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Requirements

•Must be able to speak and teach in fluent English, with strong written and oral communication skills.

•Bachelor’s Degree required, or Master’s degree desired in educational subject areas, curriculum and instruction, or area of expertise

•Experience and versed in the use of instructional technology and online teaching tools such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom

•License from the Department of Education

•Successful teaching experience working with children

•Expertise in content area and working knowledge of resources and materials for subjects

•Tireless commitment to work with diverse learners of the English language and achieving high standards

•Willingness to commit and become active participant in school life including taking over as advisor of student organizations or club


Minimum Requirements:

● Must be committed to continuous professional growth and development as a professional educator.
Must provide an official college transcript and Teacher Certificate.

● Experience teaching classes to middle and high school students


● Strives to improve the quality of instruction and to improve professional standards in the areas of human relations and communication skills.

● Develops long and short-range plans for classroom instruction.

● Provides a class syllabus for each preparation and includes expected outcomes for the use of students, parents, and supervisors.

● Develops and/or implements student assessment methods that will consistently and continuously provide a basis for evaluating student performance and achievement and which abide by the grading procedures published in the student handbook.

● Directs and coordinates a learning environment that focuses on the sensitivity to the emotional needs of individuals and respect for the integrity, capabilities, and personality of each individual.

● Must possess complete fluency in English

Other Requirements:

● Must possess a demonstrated enthusiasm about teaching students of different cultures and levels who possess a range of abilities and learning styles.

● Ability to work in groups/ team teaching.

● The position requires energy, creativity, organization, and a strong commitment to a lively community of students and educators.

● Interest in and agreeable to sponsoring an after-school activity.

● Possess a demonstrated commitment to the school's mission, vision, philosophy, professional development goals, and overall goals.

● Regular and effective communications with parents concerning student progress, reports, homework, class activities, school-wide information, etc. through different means including the School's Online Parent/Teacher portals provided.

● Demonstrated professionalism through timeliness, attendance, proper attire, language, demeanor, and intra school communications.

● Teachers must be available for individual student instruction, parent conferences, participate in school-sponsored activities, and attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings.

● Comply with all policies as stated in the Washburn employee handbook.
