Receso Académico Presencial Covid-19 -- Academic Recess Due To Covid-19

Message from our Board of Directors through Mr. Lopezcepero,

Dear Washburn community,

We have continued closely monitoring the developments related to the COVID-19 as this situation changes quite drastically daily. Maintaining the health and safety of our school community a priority and taking into consideration the recommendations of the experts and authorities, we have decided to close the school from March 16 through March 30, 2020.

With this temporary closure, our children, parents, family members, and staff will be less vulnerable to the transmission of this virus.

Meanwhile, our facilities will remain open until further notice as we closely monitor the situation. This critical decision will allow us to take the appropriate measures in preparing our teachers and staff with the necessary resources to adapt to distance learning for the rest of the recess time due to COVID-19. Therefore, the transition to this alternate teaching modality will be conducted in an organized and structured manner to guarantee the continuity of the academic school year. Teachers have been preparing for this since mid-January due to the earthquake situation in our region at the time.  Teachers had prepared three weeks' worth of material, but because of our quick work and the grace of God, none of our structures were compromised during the earthquakes.

Nevertheless, Parents and students may come to pick up all the books and any students' belongings on Tuesday, March 17.

We will continue to send regular updates as events unfold regarding this unfortunate situation. Therefore, we kindly ask all of you to continually monitor all of the school's official media for further communications.

The teaching staff will be meeting online and remotely next Monday, March 16, 2020, to finalize the strategies and prepare the work and activities that will be sent online through or virtual school programs.

We will be informing you all soon what type of application or module we will use to send these works and classes. Starting Wednesday, March 18, most students will receive assignments, activities, exercises that must be carried out in compliance with the date stipulated by the teachers. If they have any questions, they should contact the teachers via email. Teachers will not be available to serve you personally on these dates. We reiterate that our educational services will continue to be offered virtually (online) to guarantee teaching time, continued classes, mastery of skills, and to stay on course to complete the academic year.

Washburn School continues to disinfect all classrooms daily, including weekends with private companies that clean air, filters, and our water tank systems. It has been a year full of challenges; however, we are prepared to face this new scenario and continue offering an excellent service to our entire community. We urge everyone to take the necessary preventive measures to prevent the spread of this disease and to remain calm during this emergency period.

Digital Learning Plan

The teachers have been working on the creation of online materials and resources. Students, on the other hand, will remain at home and for any classwork or homework assigned during this week, including the completion of any previously assigned tasks.

Please keep in mind that online learning will vary depending on grade level and academic discipline.

Hygiene

We encourage good hygienic practices at all times, including frequent handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer, covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, avoiding being in contact with others, and refraining from touching your nose, mouth, and eyes to prevent germs from spreading. Anything you can do to help promote these practices outside of school will go a long way towards slowing the spread of infection.

Washburn School will continue performing daily comprehensive disinfectant cleaning while the school is open next week and prior to the resumption of classes.

We recommend the Washburn School community to keep abreast of the latest information directly from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization in order to follow their recommendations.

School Activities

All after school activities, events, sports games, and any school-related trips are canceled until further notice.

Family Travel

We are strongly committed to taking every safety measure necessary for the well-being of our school community. Therefore, parents are expected to inform the school of any individual or family travel and, prior to returning to school, students will be required to self-quarantine for up to 14 days to avoid contact with others. Additional information on after-travel-precautions may be found at the following site:

https://www.cdc.gov/…/travele…/after-travel-precautions.html

These are certainly challenging times, but working together, we will be able to overcome any adversity. Thank you, and be safe.

Sincerely,

Ronnie Lopezcepero, M.Ed., M.A., M.S.
