Valeria Maldonado, our 2017 Senior who studied 13 years at Washburn (2004-2017), was awarded the Outstanding First Year Student award at St. Lawrence University in New York. Only a few students are chosen from the whole university and only one from each college!
Professors, faculty, and professional staff nominate individuals, who then submit essays for review about their contributions to the first-year class and the campus as a whole. Nominees must be first-year students, have strong academic averages, have been involved in a variety of academic and co-curricular activities, and have made positive contributions to their college, their residence hall, and/or the first-year class as a whole.
