4th Grade Science Class 2/21/20

This afternoon, we did the making waves inquiry activity and began reading about different types of waves and their effects.

4th Grade Science Class 2/18/20

This afternoon, we completed the lesson review together. Then, we revisited the lesson probe to reevaluate initial thinking. We answered the phenomenon questions and ended the class with a pop quiz.

* There will be a science test on Tuesday, March 3rd.

4th Grade Science Class 2/17/20

This afternoon, we read about cartographers on page 82 and answered comprehension questions.

Then, we had a read aloud about how earthquakes and volcanoes shape Earth. We answered questions together as we read.

4th Grade Science Class 2/13/20

This afternoon, we reviewed the questions from yesterday's video. Then, we read about earthquakes and their patterns. We looked at a simulation that showed where plate boundaries meet and where earthquakes typically occur. Then, we looked at a map that showed us where the most well known earthquakes have occurred. We ended the class with a video.

4th Grade Science Class 2/11/20

This afternoon, we worked on the inquiry activity about where earthquakes occur on pages 74-76. Then, we watched a video about earthquake mapping and the students answered questions about it. We will go over these tomorrow.

4th Grade Science Class 2/10/20

The students used the first 30 minutes of the class to complete a handout on renewable and nonrenewable resources. They were permitted to use their book to complete this handout. During this time, I met with each student individually to go over his or her quiz.

Then, we began our first lesson in the Unit 3 books. We completed the probe and the phenomenon questions on pages 71-73.

4th Grade Science Class 2/7/20

Today, the students completed their quiz and then we completed the lesson 2 review in the book together.

4th Grade Science Class 2/6/20

This afternoon, we read about and discussed wind energy. We also read the STEM career connection and then revisited the probe at the beginning of the lesson and evaluated out initial thinking. Finally, we answered the phenomenon questions.

4th Grade Science Class 2/4/20

This afternoon, we reviewed the alternative energy sources and then talked about hydro-power on page 110. We also saw a diagram about how energy is transforms in a hydroelectric power point and summarized this in the notebook.

*Announcement: Science Fair*

The class science fair will be held April 13-17. I will be grading the experiment binder (50 points) and the oral presentation (50 points). Students should be able to talk about their experiment in front of the class without reading straight from the binder; however, they do not have to memorize every single part.

Focus on the following questions to guide the oral presentation:
What is your experiment about?
What were you testing?
What did you think would happen?
How did you do it?
What actually happened? Did it match what you thought?
What did you learn?
Would you change anything if you did it again? Why or why not?
Did you have fun?

*Visual representations are NOT required, but can be used if desired.

4th Grade Science Class 2/3/20

This afternoon, we watched a video about renewable resources and then answered 4 comprehension questions in the notebook. After going over the questions, we re-watched the video to reinforce the information.

Then, we read pages 110 and 111 together about the alternative energy sources. We discussed how each of them can produce energy.

4th Grade Science Class 1/31/20

This morning, we did a practice quiz to review for the quiz next Friday. Then, we began the next lesson about renewable resources by completing the probe on page 105. We also watched the phenomenon video and wrote questions on page 107.

4th Grade Science Quiz next Friday

Focus on:
yellow vocabulary words from the lesson
the fossil fuels- how we get them and what they are used for
concerns about using fossil fuels
processes of energy transformation
effects of using nonrenewable resources too much too quickly

4th Grade Science 1/30/20

This afternoon, we revisited the probe and evaluated out initial thinking. We also answered the phenomenon questions at the beginning of the lesson. Then, we completed the lesson review together on pages 102 and 103.
