Champions and Sub-Champions at the Academia Cristo Rey Volleyball Tournament
Washburn School is proud to recognize the outstanding performance of its volleyball teams at the recent Academia Cristo Rey Tournament.
The Junior Girls team were crowned tournament champions after defeating Family Christian Academy in a thrilling three-set final (21–25, 25–21, 15–10). On their path to the title, they also recorded victories against Academia Cristo Rey, Vocacional de Ponce, and Southern Victory Christian. This championship was the culmination of an impressive run of 11 wins across tournaments in Ponce, Arecibo, Caguas, and Río Grande. Earlier this season, the Junior Girls advanced to the semifinals of the Colegio Ponceño Tournament, where they fell to the eventual champions from Mayagüez. That experience became the spark that ignited their championship performance at Cristo Rey.

The team was guided by Head Coach Leoneliz Claudio, who highlighted the players’ discipline, determination, and teamwork throughout the competition.

The Senior Boys also earned recognition, finishing as tournament Sub-Champions. Their journey included a key victory against the host, Academia Cristo Rey, as well as other strong performances on the court. Their effort and consistency carried them to the championship match, securing an impressive runner-up finish.
