Washburn basketball continues to build on the school’s growing athletic success. Following the recent achievements of Washburn’s girls soccer, track, softball, and volleyball programs, the juvenile boys basketball team has now added a championship appearance to the list.
The 7th–8th grade squad delivered a composed and disciplined tournament run, securing a 37–34 semifinal victory over Family Christian Academy after earlier wins against Colegio Ponceño and Liceo Ponceño. The three-game stretch demonstrated resilience, preparation, and poise under pressure.
This success reflects a program built with long-term vision. This team is competing without recruited players and athletic scholarships, as we have developed student-athletes internally from early grades (Pre-Kinder) in basketball while maintaining full English immersion and rigorous academics. From 7th through 12th grade, regular coursework aligns with Honors or AP expectations at other institutions, reinforcing the school’s commitment to excellence both on the court and in the classroom.
The championship game will take place on Saturday, January 24 at 4:30 PM at Colegio Ponceño, against either Jayuya or Sagrado Corazón. The Washburn community is encouraged to arrive early and support the team.
