A young woman from Washburn School in Ponce is going to study at the best university in Canada and the #16 in the world.
Carolina Raquel Rivera Chacón · Washburn Class of 2026
From a small school on Carr. 14 in Coto Laurel, Ponce. And this fall, Carolina becomes the FIRST student in Washburn's history to study in Canada, at the University of Toronto.
Here is what that means:
The University of Toronto is ranked #1 in Canada and #16 in the world (U.S. News Best Global Universities 2025-2026)
It stands among the planet's elite across the five most important international ranking systems
Carolina will pay remarkably little in tuition, roughly $166,500 less over four years than an international student pays.
A world-class education, at a price more affordable than local universities.
The highest SAT in her class. 90th percentile. Above 95% of students nationally in English and science on the NWEA MAP Growth throughout her entire high school career.
Her goal: Law School, with an interest in International Music Law. A mind for the law and a heart for music.
Fun fact: the University of Toronto leads Canada with more than $647,000 in research funding per faculty member each year (Maclean's 2026). That is the caliber of the place where Carolina will study, God willing.
Not for the size of the campus, but for the size of the dreams it dares to grow. From a Washburn eagle to a blue bear. From Ponce to the University of Toronto. From a dream to a destiny.
