4th Grade Class 8/24/18

This morning the students were to complete the Lesson 1 Review (they began yesterday) and were to finish in class today for classwork points. Then, they received a worksheet that helped them review the concepts of lesson 1. They will finish this independently in class on Monday for 20 points.

4th Grade Class 8/23/18

This morning, we began class with a review game. Students should be reviewing their notes for a few minutes each night. After reviewing, we took notes on pages 27 and 28. The students used the remainder of the class to work on Lesson 1 Review on page 29. They will have the first 15 minutes of class tomorrow to finish before we review.

4th Grade Class 8/22/18

Today in class, we read pages 26-28 aloud together. We had some very great discussion about how your nerve cells/brain control all your body's movements and actions. We also talked about the differences between bacteria and viruses and how they affect your body. I was so impressed and excited with how enthusiastic the class was to learn. We watch a video about a virus, a video about bacteria, and one about the cell organelles of an animal cell. The students learned a lot today! Tomorrow we will take the last section of notes for lesson 1 and then begin the lesson review on page 29.

4th Grade Class 8/21/18

This morning, we finished labeling the organelles of the plant and animal cell. Then, we created a Venn Diagram to compare plant cells and animal cells. After comparing, we finished class with a review game. Students should be reviewing their notes for a few minutes each night.

4th Grade Class 8/20/18

This morning we took notes and discussed the organelles in the plant and animal cells. After finishing our notes, we played a class review game. The students should reread their notes at home to reinforce the concepts.

4th Grade Class 8/17/18

This morning, the students drew the plant and the animal cell in their notebook (Pg. 24-25). We ended the class with a  review game to go over what we have learned so far this year.

4th Grade Class 8/16/18

This morning, we discussed and took notes from 22-24 of our textbook. Tomorrow we will begin class with a review game.

4th Grade Class 8/15/18

This morning the students received their science fair handouts and we went through each of them. I also checked their classwork/homework from yesterday for a completion grade. Then, we began our unit by reading pages 22-25 in the textbook about living things and the differences between plants and animal cells.

4th Grade Class 8/14/18

Today in class we talked about the science fair. The students will receive their handouts for the science fair tomorrow. I made it clear today that the students will use the scientific method to conduct an experiment, not create a model.

After discussing the science fair, we introduced our first unit by reading the "Dragons of the Sea" article on page 17 of the textbook. We discussed the different adaptations of the leafy dragon. Then, because the article talks about how the leafy dragon can camouflage to look like a plant, we discussed the differences between plants and animals and how you can tell.

The students began completing the write about it activity on page 17 after the article. They had class time to work on it and will have study hall time to work on it. If they do not complete it at school, they will need to complete it for homework. This will be their first homework grade.

4th Grade Class 8/13/18

This morning we completed the second trial of the class experiment. The students then determined whether or not their hypothesis was correct. Based on that information, they/we developed the conclusion paragraph. We will begin talking about the science fair tomorrow. The students will receive the science fair handouts later this week.

4th Grade Class 8/10/18

This morning we completed our first trial of our class experiment. The students are testing which exercise will make their heart rate increase the most. We will complete our second trial and begin our conclusion on Monday.

4th Grade Class 8/9/18

Today in class we finished setting up our notebook to conduct our experiment. The students will be using this method and additional documents for their science fair project. We will conduct the first trial of our class experiment tomorrow morning.
