Some factors to consider would be how well the ingredients can be mixed together (solubility) and that the ingredients form a homogeneous mixture that is smooth. We can also consider how quickly or slowly different ingredients will cook and how they will affect the consistency of the pancake.
Finally, we ended the class by completing the lesson 3 probe on page 33. Students should have selected the situations that they thought were chemical changes and then provided a sound explanation of his or her thinking.

I think that the sugar will dissolve faster in warm water because the heat is going to melt the sugar.
Communicate Information
7. My results supported my prediction because I thought solids would mix into hot water faster than cold water.
8. I could investigate how quickly other solids would dissolve in these liquids and also whether the rate of stirring affects how fast a solid can be mixed with a liquid.
9. (We will complete tomorrow)
After completing the investigation, we watched a video about mixtures and read page 24 about heterogeneous mixtures. The students need to record two heterogeneous mixtures that they could make at home in their book for homework.

This morning, we completed the Lesson 1 module planning on page 65. We wrote:
I would want my ideal pancake to be smooth, fluffy, moist, tasty, round, and golden-brown. Knowing the properties of the ingredients will affect what ingredients I would choose and how long the pancake should cook.
Then, we began Lesson 2 with the probe on page 19 and then watched the phenomenon video and completed on page 21.
On page 21, we wrote:
Do all solids mix into liquids like this if they are small enough pieces? Are there different types of mixtures that can be made? Can the solid be removed from the liquid?
I checked the science fair topic and problem and the workbook for completion.

Different types of matter have different properties. The egg in the photo has both physical and chemical properties. Its physical properties are that it is contained in a hard, curved shell that can break and the egg inside is flexible/liquidy. Eggs change when heats, which is a chemical property.
Three-Dimensional Thinking
1. c. volume
2. Magnetism can be measured by placing a magnet close to an object, mass can be measured with a balance, and the volume of a liquid can be measured with a beaker or measuring cup.
3. Copper has a reddish-brown color and can take on many different shapes because it is able to be formed. Copper can conduct electricity and reflect light.
Extend It
We have noticed that the benches at our local sporting events are metal and they get really hot on sunny days. Most days here are sunny, and the benches are too hot to sit on. This makes people not want to events or parks. We think we can replace the metal benches with wooden or plastic ones because they won't conduct heat as well. We could also keep the metal benches and cover them with a pavilion.
We also reviewed the lesson with some multiple choice questions. We practiced "dissecting" multiple- choice questions. We talked about each answer choice and why it would be correct or incorrect.
