5th Grade Class 1/25/19

This afternoon, I collected the homework from last night. Then, we read pages 156-157 about competition, limiting factors, and carrying capacity. To demonstrate these concepts we completed the quicklab activity on page 157.

5th Grade Class 1/24/19

Reading and writing in science day! We began class with a grammar activity in which we determined the clauses in a sentence and also which type of sentence (exclamatory, interrogative, imperative, or declarative) it is.

Then, we read a digital book about food chains, and food webs. The students listened as I read aloud. At the end, they answered comprehension questions on a handout. The last question (extended thinking) should be done on a separate piece of paper. Any work that was not completed in the class time provided, needs to be completed for homework. I will be collecting the assignment tomorrow in class for points.

*Exam 4 grades were written in the back of each child's notebook.

5th Grade Class 1/23/19

This afternoon, we answered questions and added things we learned to the KWL chart. Then, we discussed how and what organisms compete for. We will continue with this tomorrow.

5th Grade Class 1/18/19

This afternoon, I collected the homework assignment. The students who wanted to shared their pieces with the class. They turned out great!

Reminder!

Exam 4 is on Tuesday, January 22nd. The review and the review with answers are both posted on your child's grade-level page.

5th Grade Class 1/17/19

Thursdays are reading and writing in science days! This afternoon, we began class with a grammar lesson on parts of speech. We worked with a sentence about ecosystems.

Next, we discussed the aspects of a fictional narrative. I read the students a fictional narrative (page 152), and then I asked the students if the aspects previously discussed were included. Finally, I read the narrative a second time while they followed along.

We made an outline to brainstorm and prepare to write our own fictional stories.

For homework, the students need to write a two paragraph fictional story about two animals that includes dialogue. The story should include a title, a setting, characters, a problem or conflict , and an interesting engaging plot (beginning, middle and end). After writing the story, the students should illustrate a scene from the story. The students can use page 152 as a reference when writing their stories.

The assignment should not be completed in the notebook as I will be collecting it tomorrow in class for points. Students that fail to submit the assignment will receive a 0.

5th Grade Class 1/16/19

This afternoon, the students used the first half of the class to complete their exam 4 review. They should compare their answers to my document on this post.

We concluded class with videos on food chains and energy pyramids.

5th Grade Class 1/15/19

This afternoon, we discussed pages 144-147 about food chains, webs, and energy pyramids. The students had the remainder of the period to work on the Exam 4 Review. They will have the first half of class tomorrow to continue to work on it.

5th Grade Class 1/11/19
