5th Grade Class 9/11/18

This afternoon, we began class with a  video about fungi. Then, the students took notes about fungi and were instructed to draw an environment that includes  5 fungi and 5 plants. If they did not finish this in class, they will need to work at home. I will be signing the notes and the drawing tomorrow. While the students worked, I met with each to check his or her science fair introduction. 

5th Grade Class 9/10/18

This afternoon, we discussed the science fair assignments that is due tomorrow. Then, we read pages 38-39 of the textbook. We had a lot of good discussion about the plant kingdom and the fungi kingdom. After reading, we took notes on the plant kingdom. 

5th Grade Class 9/7/18

This morning in class, I checked the summaries they did in class yesterday. We discussed what they learned yesterday and then watched a video on vertebrates and invertebrates. We ended class with notes. 

5th Grade Class 9/6/18

This afternoon in class, I returned the science fair research documents, and I met with each student to discuss his or her grade on exam 1. I wrote the exam grade in the back of the child's notebook. While I was meeting, the students were required to read pages 36-39  in the textbook and write a 2 paragraph (or more) summary of what they learned. I will be checking this for points tomorrow.

5th Grade Class 9/5/18

This afternoon we reviewed the videos about classification that we watched last Friday. We discussed the different groups organisms can be classified into. We read, discussed, and took notes on pages 34-35 in the textbook. Tomorrow the students will receive their science fair research back, and I will write the exam grade in the back of his or her notebook. 

5th Grade Class 8/31/18

This afternoon, we discussed the next assignment due for the science fair and we began discussing the theme of our next lesson: classification. To introduce the theme, we watched two videos on classification and the six kingdoms of life. 

5th Grade Class 8/28/18

This afternoon the students began copying the exam review (many finished). Exam 1 is on Tuesday, September 4th.  They will finish tomorrow in class. While they copied, I individually checked each student's topic and question for the science fair. I can't wait to see their experiments!

5th Grade Class 8/27/18

This afternoon, I collected the cell organelle superhero assignments and then we talked about the expectations for the science fair due date tomorrow. Then, half the students presented their projects. The rest will present tomorrow. We ended class with a vocabulary review. 

5th Grade Class 8/24/18

This afternoon the student worked on completing their cell project. Those that did not complete in class need to finish for homework over the weekend. I will be collecting it on Monday.

5th Grade Class 8/23/18

This afternoon the students worked on their cell organelle superheroes! They are turning out great!

5th Grade Class 8/22/18

What a great class today! We went over the Lesson 1 Review they completed yesterday/today in class and then I introduced the cell organelle superhero project and the students began their rough draft. I am so excited to see these! They are so creative! We will continue to work on this tomorrow in class. 

5th Grade Class 8/21/18

This afternoon, we reviewed the cell organelles with the cell rap. After listening twice, the students had independent work time to complete the Lesson 1 Review on page 29 in their textbooks. They will finish this tomorrow in the first 15 minutes of class and we will go over it. Then, I will introduce their project and they will begin brainstorming.

5th Grade Class 8/20/18

This afternoon, we reviewed cells with the organelle song and a review game. After reviewing and discussing the organelles, we took notes on how cells are organized (pg. 28).
