6th Grade Class 8/24/18

This morning in class we discussed the concepts of pollination and fertilization of plants with seeds. We watched a video that explained pollination and then we drew the diagrams on page 38 and 39 of the textbook. 

6th Grade Class 8/23/18

This morning we bag class with review questions that the students created yesterday. We used a program called plickers. The students really enjoyed it! Then, as a class, we rad page 36 and took notes on photosynthesis. 

6th Grade Class 8/22/18

This morning in class we read pages 35 and 36 in the textbook. We discussed and took notes on the role of the roots in a plant. We discussed the role of the leaves and will take those notes tomorrow. After note-taking, we played a class review game with dry erase sheets. 

6th Grade Class 8/21/18

This morning we began class with our review game of the scientific method and Lesson 1. After reviewing these concepts, we watched a video on plants and answered questions to reinforce the concepts. Then, we read page 34 in the textbook as a class. We read about the roots and the stems of plants. After reading, took notes in the notebook and drew a picture of the "pipe" system in a plant.

6th Grade Class 8/20/18

This morning the students reviewed lesson one in the textbook by completing the 6 question review in on page 29. After completing this, the turned it in to me and retrieved a 15 point fill in the blank review page. Both of these assignments should have been finished in class will count as classwork grades. 

6th Grade Class 8/17/18

This morning the students read page 28 of their textbook independently. Then, they wrote something they learned from the reading on the board. After each student completed this activity, we discussed what they wrote about bacteria, archaea, and viruses. We talk notes in the notebook. 

6th Grad Class 8/16/18

This morning we discussed the kingdoms of plant, fungi, and protists. We read pages 24-25 in our textbook and took notes. We finished class with a review game.

6th Grade Class 8/15/18

This morning, we talked more about the science fair and the students received their handout. After addressing the science fair, we read pages 22-25 and then took notes on these pages. We discussed the five characteristics of living things and how to classify organisms.

6th Grade Class 8/14/18

This morning we finished up going through information for the science fair. The students will receive their handouts tomorrow in class. We introduced our first unit by reading the "Frozen Frogs" article on page 17 of their textbooks. We discussed how animals are able to survive in different climates based on their adaptations. The students are to complete the write about it activity on page 17 in their notebook. They were given class time and will have more time in study hall to complete. If it is not completed at school, it is homework. This will be their first homework grade. 

6th Grade Class 8/13/18

This morning we completed our class experiment. The students should have finished averaging their numbers from trial 1 and trial 2. They determined whether their hypothesis is correct or incorrect. Based on that, they developed their conclusion paragraph. Finally, we began discussing the science fair. The students will receive the handouts later this week. 

6th Grade Class 8/10/18

Today we completed trial 2 of our class experiment and began averaging our numbers. We will complete our conclusion together on Monday and begin talking about the science fair. 

6th Grade Class 8/9/18

Today we finished setting up our notebook for our class experiment. The students will be using this set up along with additional documents when they do their science fair project. We did the first trial of our experiment outside this morning. We will do our second trial and write our conclusion tomorrow. 

6th Grade Class 8/8/18

Today we continued to discuss the scientific method and we began setting up our notebook for our class experiment that we will be starting tomorrow. This should help the students get familiar with the process and set up that they will use for the science fair.
