Class Science Fairs!

My original date for the class science fair, October 29th, is the correct date. The school calendar is incorrect. I apologize for the inconvenience. They will have extra time!

2nd Grade Class 9/27/18

This afternoon, we completed workbook pages 21 and 24 together to review the different animal groups we have been discussing. The students were given the remainder of the time to complete their animal foldable. I will be checking this for points tomorrow in class.

2nd Grade Class 9/26/18

This afternoon, we created a foldable to review/ compare the different groups of animals: reptiles, mammals, fish, amphibians, birds, and insects. We will finish tomorrow and it will be stapled into their notebooks.

2nd Grade Class 9/24/18

Today in class, the students were all assigned an animal and they created it with play-doh. After they finished their creation, we gathered together as a group and we classified the animals into the groups we have talked about: mammals, amphibians, fish, reptiles, and birds. We had a lot of fun with this today!

2nd Grade Class 9/21/18

Last Friday, we did notes and drawings for birds and fish. After finishing, the students made models of these animals with play-doh.

Note: An administrative decision has been made that science tests will be administered on Tuesdays; therefore, exam 2 will be October 9th, not the 10th.

2nd Grade Class 9/20/18

Today we reviewed the five groups of animals that we talked about yesterday on pages 58-59. We learned more about mammals, reptiles, and amphibians and drew more examples of these kind of animals. Note: Exam 2 was moved to October 10th as mentioned in my previous post.

Date changes!

Good evening,

This post is to notify you that Exam 2 has been moved to October 10th so that the students do not have too many tests a week. Also, I reloaded the science fair due date document with the correct fair date. The classroom fair will be October 22. This does not have much effect on the other due dates. I apologize for the mistake.

2nd Grade Class 9/18/18

This afternoon, we read/listened to two books about animals. We discussed the similarities and differences among animals using pictures. Then, the students observed and described the pictures on page 55 and drew them in their notebook. We will be describing and classifying them tomorrow. While they drew, I checked their science fair assignment and taped the exam 2 review in their notebook. Exam 2 is September 25.

2nd Grade Class 9/17/18

Yesterday in class, began Chapter 2: Animals by observing and describing the pictures on pages 52-53. The students made predictions about what they will learn in this chapter. Then, we wrote the vocabulary words and drawings in the notebook.

2nd Grade Class 9/13/18

This afternoon, we began class reflecting on what we have learned so far this year. Each child shared something. It was so great! After, we looked at the pictures on pages 44-49. The students practiced observing and describing their observations. Then, we read about the life cycle of the peach. We ended class by drawing the life cycle. The students worked very hard today! I am proud of them.

2nd Grade Class 9/12/18

This afternoon, we read an ebook together about plants. The students really enjoyed practicing reading while also hearing the book read aloud to them. After, we talked about how plants' leaves are not all the same. We compared the characteristics of two different leaves. The students were given two leaves and two crayons. We did an activity called leaf rubbing to compare them. The students were so excited about this "magical" activity. I am sure they cannot wait to show you. We ended class with a fish coloring page (since we will talk about animals soon). While the students colored, I checked the science fair hypothesis.

2nd Grade Class 9/11/18

This afternoon, the students and I worked together on workbook pages 13 and 14. Then, we compared two plants in the notebook (a cactus and a rainforest tree). We ended the class with play-doh. The students used the play- doh to create living and nonliving things. They were so excited! We had fun today. Because of such an eventful class, I was not able to meet with each child to check the hypothesis. I will look at these tomorrow.
