4th Grade Class 2/13/19

Yesterday in class, we completed the inquiry activity on page 149 to introduce our next lesson.

4th Grade Class 2/12/19

This morning, the students used the class period to complete a handout for points.

Important: Test date change!

Due to English week activities on Tuesday, February 19th, the science exam is moved to Wednesday, February 20th.

4th Grade Class 2/11/19

This morning, the students used class time to copy the Exam 5 Review. We will continue wit this tomorrow. The review can be found in a previous post as it was posted last week.

*Exam 5 is on Tuesday, February 19th.

4th Grade Class 2/8/19

This morning, we finished the biome presentations and then used the remaining class time to work on the Exam 5 review. We will use Monday's class time to complete it. This is NOT homework. Exam 5 will be on Tuesday, February 19th.

4th Grade Class 2/6/19

Today, we began presenting the biome dioramas. They turned out great! We will continue with this through the week.

*Exam 5 on Chapter 3 Lessons 1-2 will be February 19th.

4th Grade Class 1/25/19

This morning, I collected the homework from last night. We watched a video on the rainforest and the savanna. Then, we read pages 140-141 about these biomes.

We also discussed the biome (in class) project that we will begin next week. If possible, each child should have the materials (paint, cotton balls, glue, figurines, construction paper, pipe cleaners) that they need for their biome diorama in class on Wednesday. Each child will need a shoe box or small box to create their diorama in. They should have a general knowledge of the climate in the diorama (which can be found in the book) and which animals can be found there (might need additional research). A project description page will be uploaded at a later date.

4th Grade Class 1/24/19

Reading and writing in science day! This morning, we watched the biome video that was scheduled for yesterday. It was a good review of our reading from yesterday.

After viewing the video, I introduced "reading clubs". The students received a reading passage about a specific biome. The students that had the same biome were put into groups. They took turns reading the passage together. After finishing, they read the comprehension questions on the back. Finally, the students read the passage together a second time, but this time, they were highlighting/underling the information that pertained to each comprehension question.

Highlighting and underling concluded the group work stage. Students then returned to their seats and answered the comprehension questions independently in complete sentences. We practiced using the question in the answer. THEY MUST do this when answering the questions.

What was not completed in class, needs to be finished for homework. I will be collecting this for points tomorrow.

*Exam 4 grades were written in the back of each child's notebook.

4th Grade Class 1/23/19

This morning, (due to technical difficulties) we were not able to watch the biome video. We discussed their biome project that will be officially introduced later. We read pages 138-139 and looked at the map to see where the biomes are. We talked about how the biomes' organisms could look different depending on the locations. We ended the class with some notes on the board.

Reminder!

Exam 4 is on Tuesday, January 22nd. The review and the review with answers are both posted on your child's grade-level page.
